Trumpeter Verneri Pohjola’s much-anticipated new effort Ancient History is out from ACT Records. The music on the new album is composed by Pohjola himself (except for the track "Hyperballad", which is a cover from Björk). It features a new line-up, named Verneri Pohjola Quartet: Aki Rissanen on piano, Joonas Riippa on drums and Antti Lötjönen on bass. In addition, the alto saxophonist Jukka Perko joins one track, and the percussionist Tatu Rönkkö for three. Release date: 27 January.

The recently formed Brain Inventory Trio (Esa Pietilä, sax / Michael Jefry Stevens (USA), piano / Juho Laitinen, cello) plays a multitude of styles (jazz, folk, classical, rock, improvised, composed, acoustic, electric). The instrumentation of acoustic piano, saxophones and cello creates interesting musical parameters, and colors. Trio’s debut album The Wall will be released on 23 March by German Konnex Records. Brain Inventory Trio will tour in Europe later this year.

Saxophonist Jukka Perko’s new album entitled Avara will be released from Blue Note in March. The new album consists of new versions of traditional hymns. The album, and also the following tour Jukka Perko is joined with guitar players Jarmo Saari and Teemu Viinikainen. Release date: 14 March.

UMO Jazz Orchestra meets Magnum Coltrane Price, album entitled Supermusic to be released in March. Supermusic is a Finnish-Swedish collaboration between UMO Jazz Orchestra and Magnum Coltrane Price. The soulful and funky album also features two prominent Swedish musicians: trombonist Nils Landgren and singer Viktoria Tolstoy. Release date: March 16 (digital), March 21 Finland (cd), March 27 US & Canada (cd).

Kalle Kalima K-18 played new material inspired by films of David Lynch on a tour in Finland in November 2010. This material was recorded and the album Out to Lynch will come out in 2012 from TUM Records. Release date: April 2012

Elifantree is also about to release a new album entitled Time Out. The band will support the new release with a series of concerts at Turku Jazz Festival, April Jazz Festival, Vossa Jazz in Norway and Pori Jazz Festival in July just to name a few. Release date: 11 April.

The Northern Governors is a brand new super group from Finland. Flicking through the band’s member-list is like reading the who’s who of Finnish jazz and soul music. The line-up consist of musicians and artists including bandleader, composer and trumpeter Jorma Kalevi Louhivuori., Tuomo Prättälä (keys, vocals), Osmo Ikonen (bass,vocals) and Petteri Sariola (guitar, vocals). Group's self-titled debut album is coming from Blue Note label. Release date: 23 March (digital) and 28 March (cd).
