Composition Workshop at Avanti Summer Sounds introduces nine young composers

Nine new works by young composers will be presented in a Composition Workshop, "Sävellyspaja", at Avanti Summer Sounds festival in Porvoo, Finland, on June 29, 2007. The workshop is dedicated to works for soprano and chamber orchestra, and each of the composers has written a short piece of one to three minutes for this occasion.

In addition to the Finnish composers the Workshop introduces a young composer from South Korea, Ji Young Kang (b. 1974). Among the composers are also two American born composers, Alex Freeman (b. 1972) and Timothy Page (b. 1975), both currently residing in Finland. Other composers featured in the concert are Heikki Elo (b. 1964), Jarkko Hartikainen (b. 1981), Maija Hynninen (b. 1977), Christer Jokela (b. 1980), Markku Klami (b. 1979) and Lauri Mäntysaari (b. 1982).

The new works will be performed by soprano Eija Räisänen and Avanti Chamber Orchestra, and composers Magnus Lindberg and Jouni Kaipainen have acted as the foremen of the workshop.
