documenta presents Kurenniemi, Numminen and defunensemble
Documenta, one of the main festivals for contemporary art taking place in Kassel, Germany, will present Finnish music and art in its programme this year. Erkki Kurenniemi is one of the featured artists as both artist/composer and via his unique electronic instruments.
Finnish electro acoustic group defunensemble will have two concerts at the festival on 7 and 8 June. The concerts will present M. A. Numminen's music to the texts by philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein. Numminen's original trademark, the Tractatus Suite has been followed by two other Wittgenstein song cycles in the latest years: Fragen an Ludwig Wittgenstein for soprano and ensemble, as well as Gedankenaustausch über Wittgensteins Bemerkungen, to be premiered now in Kassel. Also Tractatus Suite will be part of the programme, now as a new arrangement by Kimmo Kuokkala.
Documenta is arranged every five years. This year's exhibitions will span through the summer, from 9 June to 16 September 2012.
