Finnish contemporary guitar music performed in Poland

On the Finnish Independence Day, 6 December, Polish string quartet Akademos and Finnish guitarist Kimmo Rahunen perform contemporary Finnish guitar music in Southern Poland. The concert held in Muzeum Górnoslaskie in the city of Bytom includes world premieres of Pertti Jalava’s works The Eagle-Owl for guitar and string quartet and Pictures of Spring Stream for string quartet. Also Markku Klami’s solo guitar work Cingue miniature will have its Polish premiere in the concert. The fourth Finnish guitar work performed will be Einojunani Rautavaara’s Serenades of the Unicorn, also for solo guitar.

Jalava’s quintetto The Eagle-Owl was born in collaboration with, and is commissioned by guitarist Rahunen. The quintetto will have its Finnish premiere in May 2010 in the composer’s 50-years jubilee concert in Turku.
