Joonatan Rautio

by Petri Silas :: 2008

saxophone, composer

As saxophonist Joonatan Rautio released his debut album 'Medicine' in 2005, he was already a familiar face for many a jazz enthusiast. Years upon years of jam sessions and studio dates with singers like Laura Sippola and Jenny Robson had made the man a household name on the Finnish jazz circuit.

Rautio is often compared to his major saxophonist idol Michael Brecker, and there is a modicum of truth behind this. As proven by 'Medicine' and especially by his work on another 2005 release, drummer Jukkis Uotila’s 'Meninas', similarities can be found.

Joonatan Rautio is a graduate of the Sibelius Academy Jazz Department.
