UNM presents young Finnish music in Reykjavik
Antti Auvinen (b. 1974), Maija Hynninen (b. 1977), Markku Klami (b. 1979), Juho Miettinen (b. 1978), Ari Romppanen (b. 1974), Adam Vilagi (b. 1977) and Matthew Whittall (b. 1975) will represent Finland in the Ung Nordisk Musik (UNM) festival in Reykjavik, Iceland, this year. The festival takes place from September 2 to September 8, right after the Nordic Music Days in Norrköping, Sweden.
The seven concerts of the festival encompass altogether 35 works, seven from each Nordic country. In addition to the composers, also Finnish musicians take part in the festival. Sari Anneli Mäkelä sings in Adam Vilagi's "Kymmenen fragmenttia ihmissuhteesta" (Ten fragments about a relationship), and Olli-Pekka Tuomisalo plays saxophone in the Sonata for saxophone and piano by Juho Miettinen. Pianist Emil Holmström will be playing in several concerts.
UNM is an annual festival for young Nordic composers and musicians. Each Nordic country will host the festival in turn, and the next festival in 2008 will be held in Norway.
