Finnish Jazz Weekend

Between 2004 and 2006, Fimic organised an annual Finnish Jazz Weekend for jazz exports. Top European jazz professionals were invited to each weekend, which took place in early autumn in connection with the UMO JazzFest club festival. Jazz concerts and club evenings were punctuated by receptions where Finnish jazz professionals (musicians, managers and record label representatives) had the opportunity to network with guests. The purpose of this was to help exports of Finnish jazz, which was attracting considerable attention internationally. The Finnish Jazz Weekend was organised by Fimic, the Finnish Jazz Federation, UMO Jazz Orchestra and the Finnish Broadcasting Company.

The performers for these events were chosen on the basis of quality, musical interest, relevance, stability of the ensemble and export readiness. Concerts were also designed as balanced packages, as the idea was to present Finnish jazz as comprehensively as possible.
