'El Libro de los Reyes' by Kyllönen to be premiered in Spain
Timo-Juhani Kyllönen’s opera ‘El Libro de los Reyes’ (Book of Kings) will be premiered in Cádiz, Spain, on 19 March 2009. The opera will be the first Spanish language opera by a Finnish composer to be premiered in Spain.
'El Libro de los Reyes', composed to the libretto by Maritza Núñez, is a satire on a king losing a book containing all of his ready-made speeches. It is a story about bureaucracy, corruption and power, but the harsh subject is dealt with humour and comedy.
The production is part of a cultural exchange programme between the city of Cádiz and the Finnish Institute in Madrid, and the opera is co-produced by Finnish Music Theatre Kapsäkki and Teatro Falla in Cádiz. The opera will be seen also in Espoo, Finland in autumn 2009 with a Finnish orchestra.
