Re: New Music circulates contemporary works around Europe

Europe-wide project on contemporary music called Re: New Music, will be launched during summer 2009. The project aims to get new European works performed also outside their home countries.

The music will be mediated by contemporary music ensembles, who have selected works from their home countries for a joint repertoire listing. The ensembles will, in turn, use the listing to select new works outside their country, to be included in their own repertoire. Altogether, the project promises to arrange 90 contemporary music events in 11 countries before November 2010.

The Finnish ensembles include The Chamber Orchestra of Lapland and Uusinta Ensemble. They have selected altogether 18 Finnish works to the repertoire. In addition to the established names, the listing includes also young and upcoming names like Perttu Haapanen, Uljas Pulkkis and Lotta Wennäkoski.

The project is coordinated by the Danish Composers' Society, with the collaboration of European Music Office (EMO). The Finnish partner in the project in The Society of Finnish Composers.
