"Finnish Voices" at the Lincoln Center presents talents and stars alike

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, New York, will arrange a festival on Finnish music on 15 – 18 March 2010. The festival, titled "Finnish Voices", includes a symposium and two concerts with top level Finnish composers and musicians. The featured artists represent the established international stars of Finnish music and younger talents alike.

A new work has been commissioned of Jukka Tiensuu for the occasion. The premiere will be heard on 16 March in the Alice Tully Hall, along with works by Esa-Pekka Salonen, Magnus Lindberg and Olli Mustonen, for example. On 18 March, the sold out concert in Daniel and Joanna S. Rose Studio include works by Kaija Saariaho, Einojuhani Rautavaara as well as a younger name, Uljas Pulkkis.

Two of the performers, soprano Sirkka Lampimäki and pianist Juho Pohjonen were recruited after an audition arranged at Sibelius Academy, Helsinki. They will perform alongside international and Finnish artists like clarinetist Kari Kriikku, violinist Elina Vähälä and the New Helsinki Quartet. In addition, Juho Pohjonen will be playing in the Chamber Music Society's concert series for young musicians for 2009 – 2012, Chamber Music II, which will bring him many concert opportunities both in the Lincoln Center and in other locations in the United States.
