Trio Töykeät announces tour in Norway and one-year break

Trio Töykeät will play six dates on their tour in Norway on October 4 - 9. The programme of the concerts will feature original compositions from 'Wake', the latest offering of the group that came out in 2005. Also will be heard some older tunes that date back to the beginnings of the long collaboration of pianist Iiro Rantala, bassist Eerik Siikasaari, and drummer Rami Eskelinen.

Probably the most traveled jazz group in Finland, Trio Töykeät has decided to take a one-year break. "The band has operated ceaselessly for 19 years and I think it's good to take some time off for a while", says Iiro Rantala. However, the group will not be permanently dissolved but will return in 2008.

Even without Trio Töykeät Rantala keeps himself busy. "My new trio which features Marzi Nyman, guitar, and Felix Zenger, beatbox, debuted at the Popkomm music fair in Berlin on September 21. Our intention is to do more gigs and to record an album together." That aside, Rantala is among other things composing a musical 'Patukkaooppera' for the Tampere-based TTT-Theatre.
