Ung Nordisk Musik festival in Helsinki
The annual festival for young Nordic composers, Ung Nordisk Musik (UNM), will arrive to Finland this September (20-25 Sep). Travelling around the Nordic countries, it is again Finland's turn to host the festival and show the best of the young Nordic contemporary music to Finnish audiences.
The six days of the festival are filled with different styles of music, performed by Finnish ensembles Avanti!, Uusinta, and Helsinki Chamber Choir, as well as the German-Icelandic group Ensemble Adapter. The theme of the festival is COLLISION! The theme will culminate in a collaborative composition by all of the festival's 36 composers, each writing 10 seconds of music for the work.
The Finnish jury has selected works by Jarkko Hartikainen, Ilari Hongisto, Maija Hynninen, Markku Klami, Jaakko Kortesharju, Minna Leinonen, Tiina Myllärinen and Ville Raasakka for the festival. Also Strophes II by Perttu Haapanen, the visiting lecturer of the festival, will be performed at UNM.
