The collaboration of composers and music schools extends

The composer-in-residence project, launched by the Finnish Music Information Centre FIMIC and the Association of Finnish Music Schools in 2002, extends to eight new collaborations between composers and music schools:

Huittinen music school: Juha T. Koskinen
Hyvinkää music school: Timo Alakotila
Music Institute of Imatra region: Timo-Juhani Kyllönen
Kerava music school: Juhana Riskala
Lapland music school: Sanna Ahvenjärvi
Arkipelag school of music: Asko Hyvärinen
Lahti Conservatory: Harri Ahmas
Viitasaari music school: Kai Nieminen

The project produces new music suitable for children of different age and technical skills. In addition to composing, the composers will rehearse contemporary music with children and teachers, and take part in the music theory lessons and workshops.

Encouraged by the successful pilot year 2002, many composers and music schools do maintain their joint venture. In the coming years the composer-in-residence project will be further widened.
