Meta4 premieres a new string quartet by Jouni Kaipainen at Proms

One of the dynamic rising stars of international chamber music scene, string quartet Meta4 premieres a new work by Jouni Kaipainen at the world-famous BBC Proms festival in London.

The work is Kaipainen’s 6th string quartet, and the premiere will take place at Proms Chamber Music 2 concert in Cadogan Hall London, on July 26th. The co-commission by BBC and Royal Philharmonic Society was initiated by Meta4.

Both Meta4’s performance at Proms and the work commission from Kaipainen are part of BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artists Scheme, in which Meta4 has been part during 2008‒2010. As a part of the scheme young upcoming artists and chamber music groups are promoted in different ways, for example arranging them opportunities for studio recordings and performances in the concerts and festivals around the UK. In addition to the concert at Proms, Meta4 has already received invitations to perform at the City of London Music Festival, Cheltenham Music Festival, and Manchester Mid-day Concerts Society.

Other Finnish performers at the Proms festival are sopranos Karita Mattila and Helena Juntunen, and conductor Osmo Vänskä. The Proms run from 16 July to 11 September 2010.
