Maria Kalaniemi hits WMCE at #2
Maria Kalaniemi's latest album Vilda Rosor (Aito Records) has hit World Music Charts Europe and gone straight to number 2.
Maria Kalaniemi, the technically brilliant player and powerful composer, is one of the world's leading contemporary folk music accordionist, and her album Vilda Rosor (Wild Roses) an intimate excursion to her Finnish-Swedish roots. In addition to Maria's impeccable playing, the album features her emotive Swedish language singing and many special guests, such as Arto Järvelä on fiddle and Pekko Käppi on jouhikko, the ancient Finnish-Karelian bowed lyre.
Finnish albums have done well on World Music Charts Europe this year with Paleface, Piirpauke, Frigg, Wimme and Johanna Juhola spending numerous weeks in the Top 20.
