Arttu Takalo's Concerto for Saxophone premiered
Helsinki Philharmonic premieres Arttu Takalo's (b. 1971) Concerto for Saxophone and Orchestra in Kotka Concert Hall on June 3. The concert features also music of Mihail Glinka, Judith Weir and Uuno Klami. Takalo commission is performed again the following day when the Helsinki Philharmonic plays the same programme in Helsinki. The orchestra is led by John StorgÄrds and the soloist is Jukka Perko, saxophone.
Arttu Takalo is the renowned MIDI-vibist and composer of the leading fusion group XL. His romantic-tinged style that connotates visual ideas with great potential for film screen has been well presented on his first solo effort "When I Fall" (2002). Takalo has also composed orchestral and chamber music and numerous works for big band.
