Ilmiliekki Quartet embarks on UK tour and releases new album

Ilmiliekki Quartet will perform on a six-concert tour in the UK on November 14 - 19. The shared concert bills in Leeds, Oxford, Bristol, London, York, and Norwich will feature also the Norwegian duo of Solveig Slettahjell and Sjur Miljeteig.

The sophomore album of Ilmiliekki Quartet, 'Take It With Me', will be released in the UK prior to the tour. "From the UK tour I expect a lot of playing on several successive days. The powerplay of the new material always brings new aspects to the music", says Verneri Pohjola, the frontman and trumpeter with Ilmiliekki.

Multi-date tours in one country are relatively rare to any jazz artists, and Pohjola is clearly excited about the forthcoming tour. However, Ilmiliekki has many international appearances under its belt before.

One of Ilmiliekki's recent highlights was their gig in New York within the Jazz at Lincoln Centre series only a week ago. "The response of the audience of roughly 150 persons was very enthusiastic", says Pohjola.
